The Story of Christmas

Today we celebrate the most extraordinary event which ever took place on the earth.

A famous astronaut upon returning to the earth said that the most significant achievement of our age was not that man stood on the moon, but rather that God in Christ stood upon this earth.

Our celebration today is not about God coming to the earth as a God but as a man. This is a most humbling experience. God was born in a manger, not the best of places to even have a pet to be be born. A place we would never wish to dwell.

Responding to the Christmas Story

The shepherds immediately responded when they were told about the birth of Jesus. How many people in our generation would respond or do respond to the message of Christ with such urgency.

Such an amazing site seeing this infant taken care of a mortal mother and a mortal father. As shown in John 1, he was not received even by His own.

John 1:1-14

1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2  The same was in the beginning with God.

3  All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4  In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5  And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

6  There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

7  The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.

8  He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

9  That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

10  He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

11  He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

12  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

13  Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

14  And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Key things to Note about Jesus from the Gospels:

  • He is God

    Hebrews 1:1-4

1  God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,

    2  Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

    3  Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

4  Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

  • Jesus is the reflection of God
If you wish to see God, look at Jesus and how He lived.
  • He is the very essence of God
  • He is the exact representation of God
  • He is one and the same with The Father
  • He is still actively involved in saving the world.

Christmas Story Revealed to a Scottish Farmer

There was a scottish farmer whose wife was a christian though he did not believe the Christmas story. To him it was absurd and ridiculous; he would mock his wife. One snowy Sunday he relaxed at home and after his family had left for church, he was left alone. The weather deteriorated soon after into a blinding storm. The farmer suddenly heard a thump against the window; soon after he heard the loud thump again. He then ventured out to see what was happening.

There in the field he saw a large flock of geese. They had been migrating south but had become disoriented by the storm. They were stranded on his farm unable to fly or see their way. The farmer took compassion on them and he went to help the geese. He realised that his barn would give them shelter that night. So he opened the door and stood back hoping that the geese would make their way into the barn.

But the geese couldn’t realise that it would provide them shelter. He tried to show them in, but the geese ran in different directions. Perplexed, he got some bread and made a trail to the barn door, but they still couldn’t catch on. Nothing he could do would get them into the warmth of the shelter of the barn.

Feeling frustrated, he exclaimed, “why don’t they follow me, can’t they see? This is the only place they can survive this storm; how can I possible get them to follow me?”

He thought for a moment and realised that they would not follow a human. The only way would be for him to become a geese. He said to himself that “if i could only become like one of the them, i could save them”. It was at that moment that he stopped and thought again about what he had said. This is when he understood God’s heart towards mankind.

As a good father, our Father in Heaven has given us the power of choice or freewill. Because of this He does not interfere in our actions, but He is saddened when we don’t do right. Can you make our Heavenly Father proud today?

Christmas is about God being with us now in the present. So that we can experience His love and be saved from unrighteousness. Would you allow Emmanuel to change your life’s trajectory?

John 3:16
16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

God Loves You

John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

All men have sinned and fallen short of God’s Glory, yet God made the provision of eternal life for you through the sacrifice of His Son Jesus Christ. If you wish to be saved to day, kindly say this prayer:

Prayer of Salvation

Lord Jesus, thank You for loving me even though I am a sinner.
I surrender my life to you as my Lord and saviour.
Thank You for saving me, in Jesus Name. Amen
