Gracious father we thank you for another time of praise and worship and fellowship with you. Thank you for those of us reading this and thank you for those who will read this. We pray you call us by name today. Please reveal your deep truth unto us even as we start another journey this week. Isaiah 43:16 – 19
Thus says the LORD, who makes a way in the sea, a path in the mighty waters, 17 who brings forth chariot and horse, army and warrior; they lie down, they cannot rise, they are extinguished, quenched like a wick: 18 “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. 19 Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.

Psalm 126
When the LORD restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream. 2 Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.” 3 The LORD has done great things for us; we are glad.

John 12:1 – 8
1Six days before the Passover, Jesus, therefore, came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. 2 So they gave a dinner for him there. Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those reclining with him at the table. 3 Mary, therefore, took a pound of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. 4 But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (he who was about to betray him), said, 5 “Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?” 6 He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief, and having charge of the moneybag he used to help himself to what was put into it. 7 Jesus said, “Leave her alone, so that she may keep it for the day of my burial. 8 For the poor you always have with you, but you do not always have me.”

Key Scripture for the Message

John 12:8 For the poor you always have with you, but you do not always have me.”

The bible talks about the glory of a woman to be her hair. The important thing in this message is not what Mary gave but what the gift represented. According to the Old Testament when Samuel went to anoint David, there was a reference of oil poured down. (1 Samuel 16:1)

The gift was in utter humility. Jesus sat down and begin to wash the feet of the disciples John 13:1-7

The reason why the oil used by Mary to anoint Jesus’s feet was expensive was that, It was extracted and dropped from a root that was found only in Eastern India and what it is now called Nepal. It was then carried to the country in the Middle East and this was a valuable commodity in the days of Jesus.

Lamentation 3:22-23
It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed because his compassions fail not. 23They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
