How to Wait Upon The Lord

Isaiah 40:31
31  But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

In understanding waiting, first we must use the Eagle to understand the act of waiting upon the Lord.

The Eagle

Legend says that an Eagle of 30 to 50 years flies to a high place where it endures a harsh trial.
It can fly because it’s feathers are overgrown therefore it plucks it feathers from its body and its talons from its feet.
Its talons would have grown curled and useless, it breaks against a rock defenceless. It cries out and waits for a time of renewal.

Other eagles hear it cry and come to aid, they fly overhead scaring off other predators, and they bring food to their incapacitated friend.

In hebrews, to wait means to bind together like a cord. The process of making a rope through twisting and leaving. It literally means hope.

Like the eagle, God makes us grow through harsh trials in order to shape us.

Every spiritual problem in life can be traced to a single source. Flee from sin and do not doubt God’s power, faithfulness and promises by not perceiving right about God.

  1. Let God be your only Hope

    Mark 2:11-12
11  I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.
12  And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.

    Psalm 25:15
15  Mine eyes are ever toward the Lord; for he shall pluck my feet out of the net.

    Psalm 46:10
10  Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

  2. Submit to God’s Sovereignty
God works on His own time, His own ways and on His own terms

    Isaiah 55:8-9
8  For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.
9  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

3 Principles

  1. The Lord is a Divine Renewer
  2. Wait upon the Lord
  3. As you wait, you will Soar like an eagle
